Urban placemaking - Kaka‘ako Agora 2014-2016

Having closed its R/D concept on Auahi Street due to pending development of the site, the Interisland Terminal team partnered with landowner Kamehameha Schools to continue its creative place-making work in Kaka‘ako at a large, vacant warehouse space at 441 Cooke Street.  The initial concept for Kaka‘ako Agora was to create an "indoor park," an open shaded space in a neighborhood with few shade trees, that could also be used for community programs and events.  The team worked with Tokyo-based Atelier Bow-wow to design the Agora, with the support of local architects Collaborative Studio.
